OUR COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION
The American College for Advancement in Medicine is committed to developing an educational program that is based upon the most current, comprehensive and scientifically sound evidence available. ACAM programs are consistently of the highest caliber, attracting thought leaders in the field of integrative medicine from around the world. Continuing medical education credits are available for pre-conference workshops and conference programs. ACAM is approved to grant CME by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
We encourage ACAM faculty to evaluate the evidence that underlies their materials, selecting the most valid and reliable evidence for the topic being addressed; topics may include philosophy, principles, basic science, and clinical applications. For clinical applications, a hierarchy of evidence (highest to lowest validity) can help to select the best science available. An example of such a hierarchy might include: meta-analysis; randomized clinical trials; non-randomized controlled trials; well-designed cohort or case-control analysis; expert consensus; epidemiological and descriptive studies; expert opinions and case reports. We work with our presenters to identify the level(s) of evidence used in preparing materials for lecture, so that we, in turn, can report our level of scientific rigor to our accrediting agency, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
THE VOICE OF COMPLEMENTARY, ALTERNATIVE AND INTEGRATIVE (CAIM) MEDICINE
ACAM is committed to ensuring that physicians, researchers, and other CAIM healthcare professionals play an active role in shaping the future of the CAIM movement. To that end, we utilize a nationwide network of ACAM leaders as our spokespeople to clearly and effectively communicate the benefits of CAIM therapies have in improving treatment outcomes of patient care and the whole healthcare system. Our resources also allow physicians to access information about current legislative action as well as avenues to communicate with legislators and the media on an individual basis. Through bold and thoughtful communication with decision-makers and key influencers, ACAM strives to increase awareness and recognition of Complementary, Alternative and Integrative Medicine, ACAM members’ contributions and quality of care they provide.
